Protect Your Investment

Concrete is a porous product and can absorb moisture if left unprotected.  Moisture absorbed in concrete comes in the form of water, chloride (salt), stains or oil based materials, and should be protected with a sealer.  A sealer helps control the penetration of these contaminants but it also allows the concrete to breath to help ensure that moisture will not be trapped.

Generally, there are two broad categories of sealers:

*Film formers block penetration of water and contaminants by forming a barrier on the concrete surface.  Many of these types of sealers also leave a gloss or sheen to enhance the color and often used on exposed aggregate or colored concrete.

*Penetrants actually penetrate into the concrete surface to a depth of approximately 1 to 4 mils to increase water repellency and resist stains on absorbent concrete.  Penetrants are meant to protect the surface without noticing the product leaving concrete to look natural but still be protected.

Whether it be plain gray concrete, exposed aggregate, or decorative concrete, periodically cleaning and sealing will benefit the product for years to come while extending the concrete’s service life.  As the surface begins to show wear from traffic and the environment that it is exposed to, cleaning, stain removal products, and sealing products can help restore protective barriers.  Sealers also help protect concrete from UV exposure and freeze-thaw cycles.

We offer concrete cleaning and sealing service, but for those who prefer to “do it yourself, many products are available at your local building and hardware stores.  Always read the directions and apply the correct product for the job.
